Why it matters#
Search engines cross-check business information across the web. Matching details reinforce that your business is real and located where you say. Mismatches — an old phone number on Justdial, a different address format on Facebook — create doubt for both algorithms and customers who call the wrong number.
How to audit and fix NAP#
- Define your canonical NAP: exact business name, full address format and primary phone number.
- Search for variations: your business name, old addresses and old phone numbers.
- List every citation: Google, Bing Places, Apple Business Connect, Justdial, IndiaMART, Sulekha, Facebook, Instagram, industry directories.
- Update or claim each listing to match exactly.
- Remove duplicates where possible.
- Add NAP to your website footer and contact page, with LocalBusiness schema.
Moving or changing numbers? Update Google Business Profile first, then your website, then all other listings. Keep a spreadsheet so future changes take minutes.
