Google Business Profile

In short

Google Business Profile (formerly Google My Business) is a free listing that controls how a business appears in Google Maps and local search results, including address, hours, reviews, photos and services.

Why it matters#

For “near me” and city-based searches, your Business Profile often appears before any website — in the local pack and on Google Maps. It’s where customers call, get directions, read reviews and decide.

Optimisation checklist#

  • Claim and verify the profile.
  • Use your real business name — no added keywords.
  • Choose the most specific primary category; add relevant secondary categories.
  • Complete address or service area, phone, website, hours and holiday hours.
  • Add services and products with descriptions.
  • Write a helpful 750-character description.
  • Upload real photos regularly: exterior, interior, team, work.
  • Publish posts for offers, events and updates.
  • Ask for and reply to reviews consistently.
  • Answer common questions in your description, services and website FAQ.

Tracking#

The Performance section shows calls, direction requests, website clicks and the searches that found you. Add UTM parameters to your website link to measure visits and leads in GA4.
