Internal Links

In short

Internal links are hyperlinks from one page to another page on the same website. They help users navigate, help search engines discover pages, and signal which pages are most important and how topics relate.

On this page
  • Contextual links inside body content — the most meaningful for SEO.
  • Navigational links in menus, breadcrumbs and footers.
  • Related-content links such as “Keep reading” blocks.

Why they matter#

  • Discovery: pages without internal links may be rarely crawled (orphan pages).
  • Relevance: anchor text describes the target page.
  • Importance: pages with more internal links from strong pages are treated as more important.
  • User journeys: links guide readers toward conversion.

Quick best practices#

  • Link from relevant pages that already get traffic to pages you want to grow.
  • Use descriptive anchor text, not “click here”.
  • Add links into every new post from 2–5 older related posts.
  • Point links at final URLs, not redirects.
  • Keep internal links followed (no nofollow).
